PRINCESS COUP SMASHES RECORD Friday, 5th June 2009 Champion racemare Princess Coup has smashed the Magic Millions sale price record when she made $3m last Thursday.
Offered for sale by Willow Park Stud on behalf of Ray Coupland and John Bromley, she was knocked down to Tony Bott of Evergreen Farm, Raymond Terrace.
“She went for more than I thought,” Bott said. “I thought we might be able to get her for $2 to $2.5 million but mares like her only come up every couple of years and we were keen to buy her. “It’s nice to be able to buy one of these great mares,” Bott said of Princess Coup. “She was a champion racehorse and she is a smashing individual. She will make a great broodmare - whether she is a value buy I guess time will tell,” he continued without confirming the identity of his client.
Glenn Burrows of Willow Park Stud, who consigned Princess Coup, said: “We are obviously delighted with the price. She was one of those rare jewels so you expect those sort of horses to make good money and we thought it was a good price. She has gone to a good home in Evergreen Farm. From the time we spent with her, we fell in love with her, she is a very sensible kind mare and I am sure she will turn out to be a very good mother.
At this stage it is thought she will either visit Redoute's Choice or More Than Ready in the upcoming seaon.
