Flying Spur Filly Stamps Her Golden Slipper Ticket
Monday, 15th February 2010

The Clarry Connors-trained Georgette Silk raced her way into Golden Slipper calculations with an impressive victory in the Listed Widden Stakes.

Georgette Silk was given a positive ride by Blake Shinn, controlling the pace before accelerating clear to win by 1 1/2-lengths from Mafia Miss with So Detached 3 1/4-lengths back in third place.

"She is a really good horse and the best two-year-old I've had in a long time," Conners said after the race. "She's up there with my 4 Slipper winners."

“We thought she'd win at her first start, hoping the other horse (Beneteau) was not as good as everyone thought,” Connors said.
“She got going real quick, has good acceleration. “I love the way she settled, she’s just a lovely filly “She’s Golden Slipper bound now and hopefully it comes off.”
Owned by Edmund and Belinda Bateman, the striking daughter of Flying Spur was a $730,000 purchase by Hubie de Burgh from the Willow Park Stud consignment at the 2009 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling sale.

Georgette Silk was the most expensive yearling sold by Flying Spur in 2009. A half-sister to two winners including the the stakes-placed Barsha (Redoute's Choice), Georgette Silk is the fourth foal of the 3-time wining Barathea (Ire) mare Apparel, who is a half-sister to South African Group 1 winner Sydney's Dream, the dam of Group 1 winner and promising young stallion Charge Forward.

Willow Park consigned a half-brother to Georgette Silk by Rock Of Gibraltar (Ire) to the Magic Millions Yearling sale in January. He was purchased by Scone Bloodstock services for $130,000.
Two other half-sisters to Apparel are the Gimcrack Stakes (G3) winner Marskin, the dam of another Gimcrack Stakes winner Donna Natalia, and the Listed winner Settler's Cove, the dam of multiple Group 2 winner Kidman's Cove.

Apparel has a filly foal by Bernardini (USA) and is now in foal to boom first season sire Sebring.
