2012 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale Wrap-up
Wednesday, 18th April 2012

Willow Park consigned 12 horses (from 13 catalogued; 1 withdrawal) at this year's Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

10 of of the 12 sold at an average price of $279,500 and median of $245,000. These figures compared well with the overall Session I sale average of $220,682 and median of $160,000 . The sale clearance rate of 83% was the same as previous years.

"Even with the full brother to SO YOU THINK [x Triassic colt] being a late withdrawal from the sale this was the strongest draft that I have brought to Easter and the results portray where the market is currently at," commented Willow Park proprietor Glenn Burrows.

"Inspections were solid enough with a new daily record on Sunday by the Lonhro/Believe n Succeed filly who was out 40 times which broke the previous record also held by 2 fillies Samantha Miss and Anise."

Top price for Willow Park was the $625,000 for the first foal of Gr 1 winner ABSOLUT GLAM, the filly knocked down to astute judges James Bester and Demi O'Byrne.  Other highlights included the $425,000 paid for the Lonhro/Believe'n'succeed filly by New Zealand's G Harding and the $400,000 for the Gussy Godiva colt who was purchased by DGR Thoroughbred Services.

Commenting on the market generally Glenn said "It seems like the yearlings that tick all the boxes and sell well is becoming a progressively smaller percentage which is not good news for breeders. Certain stallions are doing a very good job at stud but for some unknown reason don't get the respect they deserve in the sale ring. The ‘what's in fashion’ scenario as far as stallions are concerned seems to be shrinking too with Fastnet Rock being the exception. Surely the old chestnut of service fee prices has to be raised again.”
