Black type Charlie!

13 Mar 2023

We were thrilled to see Cavalier Charles put in a huge run in Sunday's Listed Canberra National Sprint, running third by 0.87L in his first attempt at stakes level.

Trained by Matthew Dale, the six year old by Twin Hills Stud sire Denman is lightly raced, with 18 starts under his belt for six wins, six placings and $352,000 in the bank. He is a homebred for Michael Thomas, who also bred and raced his dam Offer It Up (Commands), as well as her dam Winifred's Prayer (Tierce).

Michael has developed the family over many years, including breeding Offer It Up's half sister Busking (Encosta de Lago), who he sold as a yearling before purchasing her back years later carrying her fifth foal, who turned out to be the people's Champion - triple Group 1 winner of $7.3million, Happy Clapper (Teofilo).

The two half sisters arrived at Willow Park in 2014 and Busking produced three more foals, including a second stakes winner in the Gr2 Sires Produce winner Not A Single Cent (Not A Single Doubt).

Having retained all of Offer It Up's foals to race since 2015, Michael has been rewarded for his faith in the family with more black type and while it is bittersweet having lost Offer It Up this season, she has a yearling filly and weanling colt that will both eventually join their siblings in the Matthew Dale stable.

Offer It Up has been a favourite of a number of our staff since arriving at Willow Park and we look forward to her progeny continuing to do her proud in the coming years!
