Broodmare success

12 Sep 2023

For the third consecutive week, we're celebrating a Willow Park sold broodmare producing a stakes winner… two in fact!

The latest star mare is Chaquinta [NZ] (High Chaparral), the dam of Saturday's Group 3 Gold Trail Stakes winner, Te Akau Racing's unbeaten filly Quintessa (Shamus Award).

A five-time winner, including three consecutive Sydney city wins, Chaquinta (pictured) was sold to Rosemont Stud at the 2018 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale for $120,000. Quintessa is her third foal and was sold at Karaka as a yearling by Wentwood Grange, bringing $170,000 to the bid of David Ellis.

Sunshine in Paris (Invader) also returned with a bang in Sydney, taking out the Group 2 Sheraco Stakes in record time, her first run since selling for $3.9million at this year’s MM Broodmare Sale.

Her dam, Zenaida (Zabeel) was sold through our 2021 MM Broodmare draft for $240,000 to Paul Willetts Bloodstock, on behalf of Three Bridges Thoroughbreds.

Sunshine in Paris was an unnamed yearling at the time Zenaida was sold and has since come out to win four of her six starts for Annabel Neasham, including February's Group 1 Surround Stakes.

Following her Gr1 win, Sunshine in Paris was sold to James Harron Bloodstock for Fairway Thoroughbreds, while Three Bridges sold Zenaida on for $1.4million.
