El Rocko goes back-to-back

17 Aug 2025

With a reputation for loving wet tracks, El Rocko is a fan favourite during the winter months and after gaining his first 1600m win last start, he backed it up on Saturday with another stylish win over the same distance at Caulfield.

Jumping straight to the front and leading the whole way, El Rocko put a 3L gap on his rivals rounding the home turn and held off a late challenge from Too Darn Discreet (Too Darn Hot) to win by a nose.

Now a seven-year-old, El Rocko has eight wins under his belt - five at city level - and 12 placings, including two stakes placings. His earnings are now just short of $650,000.

Bred by Bromfield Park, who kept a share in him, El Rocko (Fastnet Rock) was foaled and raised at Willow Park, then sold through the 2020 online Inglis Easter Yearling Sale for $250,000 to his trainer John McArdle (Redgum Racing) and Pacific Bloodstock.

He is the seventh foal produced by American Listed winner Butters [USA] (El Prado), who is also the dam of Gr1 Queen of the Turf Stakes winner, Foxplay (Foxwedge).

This is the family of dual Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner and two-time USA Champion Male Sprinter, Elite Power (Curlin), who now stands at stud for Juddmonte Farms.
