Five for Kapakiri

25 Aug 2025

A heavy track at Warwick Farm proved no problem for six-year-old gelding Kapakiri, who demolished his rivals under James McDonald this week.

Second up this preparation, Kapakiri appreciated the wet track and a step out to 1600m, demolishing his rivals by an easy 6.12 lengths.

It was the fifth career win for the son of Kermadec (NZ), who boasts four wins at metropolitan level. With an added 10 placings among his 30 starts, Kapakiri has banked $444,025 in a successul career to date.

Bred and owned by Neville Morgan and Chris Waller, he is the third foal from Listed Gosford Gold Cup winner Oriental Lady (GER), who was imported to Australia as a three-year-old to race for Australian Bloodstock.

Oriental Lady placed twice from seven starts in her native Germany, including a Group 2 second, before relocating to Australia to earn five wins and another stakes placing in the Listed Australia Day Cup.

She has been married to Kermadec since retiring to stud and it has proven a happy union, with three winners from four to race so far and black type achieved by her first foal, Kirkeby, who emulated his dam running third in the Listed Australia Day Cup.

Oriental Lady arrived at Willow Park with Kirkeby at foot in 2018 and is due to foal another Kermadec foal any day now.
