Libertard scores for Rheinwood
05 May 2025

As a three-time winner who had not graced the winner's circle since August of 2023, it was no surprise to see the Annabel and Rob Archibald-trained Libertad jump at long odds of $83 in Saturday's Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm.
But the four-year-old stallion proved the doubters wrong, taking advantage of barrier two with an electrifying rails run, bursting through to score by the barest of margins over Gr2 winner Jedibeel (NZ).
A winner on debut at two, Libertad followed up with a win in the Gr3 Kindergarten Stakes (1200m), then stringing together a third consecutive win in the Gr3 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at his first start back at three.
Injury woes and bad luck have plagued the talented entire since, but a couple of placings in Group company showed his trainers he was worth preserving with, rewarding their patience with his third stakes win on Saturday.
A son of Newgate Farm's gun sprinter Russian Revolution, Libertad is the best of three winners to date from Charge Forward mare, Electric Charge.
A winner at Pakenham for Robbie Griffiths, Electric Charge was purchased by Rheinwood Pastoral Co. from Willow Park's 2016 Magic Magic Broodmare Sale draft for $200,000.
After selling her first four yearlings for a combined $810,000, Rheinwood capitalised on Libertad's early success, selling the mare to Trilogy Racing in 2023 for $360,000.
Remarkably, Libertad is the second stakes winner this season that Rheinwood have bred from a Willow Park-sourced mare, joining Gr1 The Galaxy winner Private Harry (Harry Angel x Happy Pilgrim).
They are two of eight stakes winners (three Group 1) this season produced by WP-sold broodmares. Don't miss your chance to secure our next stakes producing broodmare from next week's Inglis Broodmare Sales.
