Stakes winner for Aquamosa

17 Aug 2025

Stakes racing is beginning to heat up as we head into Spring and we were thrilled to see Willow Park-sold broodmare Aquamosa [NZ] produce a stakes winner on Saturday, when Jimmy Recard took out the Gr3 Vain Stakes at Caulfield.

Last seen in early July at Flemington when winning his second consecutive race, Jimmy Recard was favourite in Saturday’s feature, his first start as a three-year-old.

With a perfect run on the rail, Jimmy Recard knuckled down for a duel in the straight with gun colt Tycoon Star (Written Tycoon), winner of the Gr3 Maribyrnong Plate and third placegetter in the Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes. Jimmy had too much class and powered on to win by quarter of a length.

It was just the fourth start for the talented colt, who became the 121st stakes winner for Yarraman Park Stud’s Champion, I Am Invincible.

Jimmy Recard is the fourth foal of Aquamosa, a Gr3 placed daughter of four-time Gr1 winning sire, Alamosa [NZ] (O’Reilly).

Aquamosa was sold at the 2019 Inglis Great Southern Broodmare Sale carrying her first foal by So You Think (NZ), where she made $87,500 to the bid of John Chalmers Bloodstock.

The subsequent colt by So You Think sold for $130,000 the following year at the Inglis Weanling Sale, while Aquamosa was also sold on for a tidy profit, bringing $180,000. Both were knocked down to Ray Gall’s Gall Bloodstock - part-owner of I Am Invincible.

That $180,000 proved to be good buying, with four subsequent yearlings out of Aquamosa selling for a total of $1,056,000, including Jimmy Recard who made $350,000 at the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The first WP sale mare to produce a stakes winner in the new season, Aquamosa is one of eight mares sold across our 2019 drafts to produce a stakes horse, a year that also included Temolie - dam of Gr1 Australian Derby winner Aeliana (NZ).
