Talkanco steps it up a level

28 Apr 2025

A fortnight after claiming her first black type victory, star West Australian filly Talkanco stepped it up a level with a super win in the Gr2 Karrakatta Plate at Ascot.

The Daniel and Ben Pearce-trained juvenile is the latest star produced by a Willow Park-sold broodmare, as the third foal of tough mare Calianco (California Dane).

Talkanco (I'm All The Talk) is now the winner of three from five, with $507,000 in the bank. In claiming the Gr3 Gimcrack Stakes/Gr2 Karrakatta Plate doubke, she emulates another WA superstar in the recently retired Amelia's Jewel (Siyouni).

Talkanco is raced in partnership by her breeder Woodbridge Thoroughbreds, who purchased her dam Calianco for $52,500 out of our 2019 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale draft.

Broodmares sold by WP have produced seven stakes winners this season, highlighted by Gr1 winners Aeliana (NZ), Private Harry and Sunshine in Paris. Additionally, of the broodmares sold in 2019, seven have produced black type horses so far, with their oldest foals only five-year-olds.
