El Rocko romps in
28 Apr 2025

El Rocko is quickly gaining a cult following among punters, thanks to his penchant for a wet track, which he struck at Moonee Valley on a soft 7 over 1510m on Saturday.
Trained by Redgum Racing's John McArdle, El Rocko assumed a stalking position on the outside of the leader, taking over at the 400m to win by an easy 2.75 lengths.
It was the sixth career win - third at metropolitan level - for the son of Champion Sire Fastnet Rock, taking his earnings over $448,000.
El Rocko also has black type to his name, having run third in the Listed Anzac Day Stakes (1400m) as a two-year-old and third in the Listed Tontonan Stakes (1400m) at three. On that occasion, the horse the claimed second was fellow WP graduate and eventual Group 1 winner, Pinstriped (Street Boss x Snitzel Blitz).
Bred by Bromfield Park, El Rocko is out of Butters [USA], a North American Listed winner by sensational sire Tapit [USA] who is also the dam of Gr1 Queen of the Turf winner Foxplay (Foxwedge).
Affectionately known as Peanut since he was a foal, El Rocko was purchased by his trainer and Pacific Bloodstock for $250,000 from our 2020 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale draft, when the pandemic forced the sale to be held virtually.
