Inglis Broodmare Sale next week
02 May 2025
As the first of the 2025 broodmare sales approaches, we thought it would be appropriate to recap the incredible success of Willow Park broodmare graduates, particularly in the past three seasons.
The ultimate goal when selecting a new member of your broodmare band is finding a gem that will produce your next Group 1 winner. In total, 14 broodmares sold by Willow Park have reached this goal, three this season alone!
This season’s Gr1 winning stars Aeliana (NZ), Private Harry and Sunshine in Paris join the likes of Benedetta, Bonham (NZ), She’s Extreme, Quintessa and Velocious (NZ) in recent years as progeny of mares offered by Willow Park.
They are complemented by a host of other stakes winners, most recently the exciting WA two-year-old filly Talkanco (ex Calianco), winner of the Gr2 Karakatta Plate and Gr3 Gimcrack Stakes.
In total, broodmares offered by Willow Park have produced 14 Gr1 winners, 11 Gr2 winners, 10 Gr3 winners, 17 Listed winners and a further 42 stakes placegetters.
An interesting note is a handful of mares that failed to reach their reserve at auction then went on to produce multiple stakes horses, headed by the blue hen mare Mica’s Pride. Passed in when offered by Willow Park in 2008, Mica’s Pride then produced two Gr1 winners - Criterion and Comin’ Through - and two further stakes winners across her stud career.
Proving passed in mares are worth another look, this group also includes Whatalovelyday (dam of Benedetta and Whatafox), La La Land (dam of Gentleman Roy and Jacquinot Bay) and Ryzhkina (dam of Red Genesis (JPN) and Rouge Suerte (JPN).
Your next opportunity to secure a prime broodmare from Willow Park is next week’s Inglis Chairman’s and Broodmare Sale, where Gr1 placed Tulsi (The Autumn Sun) will be offered as a racing and breeding proposition in the Chairman's session, followed by 11 mares covered by exciting young stallions selling in the Broodmare session.
