Dr Evil wins at Randwick

28 Aug 2025

A brilliant ride by Jason Collett saw Dr Evil back in the winner’s circle at Randwick on Wednesday, recording his ninth with for trainer John Steinmetz.

The tough gelding turned nine years old at the beginning of the month and proved he’s still got it, clocking up his fifth metropolitan win at start 75.

With another 22 placings to his credit, Dr Evil has been a terrific earner for his connections, banking $586,840 to date.

Foaled at Willow Park in 2016, Dr Evil was bred by our late neighbour and local Scone legend, Wayne Saunders, along with his wife Helen.

Wayne and Helen had a handful of broodmares over the years and Dr Evil’s dam, Rasay Mist (Nediym), held a special place in Wayne’s heart as a homebred Randwick winner.

Dr Evil was the final foal they bred from Rasay Mist before Wayne’s passing and he was sold as a yearling for just $4,500 through Abbey Thoroughbreds. The buyer, John Steinmetz, has coincidentally been a friend of Glenn’s family for over 40 years.

Wayne loved talking to our staff about his horses and would be incredibly proud to have bred such a successful racehorse. We are also proud to have played a small part in Dr Evil’s early days and we look forward to more wins yet!
